Eye Exam — Staten Island, NY — Advanced Vision Care Associates

CONDITIONS WE DIAGNOSE:

DIABETIC RETINOPATHY

Diabetic Retinopathy occurs in patients who have type 1 or 2 diabetes and is the result of damage to blood vessels in the retina. Symptoms include spots, dark strings or other floaters in your vision, impaired color and blurred vision.

CATARACTS

A cataract is a cloudy film that forms over the lens of your eye causing blurry vision, light sensitivity, poor night vision and faded colors. They can be caused by age, smoking, radiation, diabetes and more. Our team is qualified to remove these cataracts via surgical operation!

GLAUCOMA

Glaucoma is the leading cause of blindness for eye patients over 60. This series of eye conditions is caused by high pressure in the eye causing damage. Symptoms include eye pain, headaches, nausea and blurred vision. If detected, our team of ophthalmologists will work with you on proven prevention methods.

BLEPHARITIS

If you notice your eyelid has become red, irritated and contains dandruff-like scales, you may have Blepharitis. This common eye condition is typically caused by either bacteria or a skin condition. There are a wide variety of treatments our team can apply to deduce the inflammation and remove the buildup.

CORNEAL DISEASES

The cornea is the outer layer at the front of your eye. There are a wide variety or conditions that may affect your cornea’s ability to focus, cause eye pain and cause your eye to water. It can almost feel like something is stuck in your eye! We can use laser treatment to reshape the cornea or remove scarring.

Keratitis

Keratitis is when the cornea becomes inflames, leading to swelling and pain. This is typically caused by bacteria buildup inside contact lenses.

MACULAR DEGENERATION

As you age, your Macula, the small central portion of the retina, slowly wears down. This leads to severe vision problems for patients typically over 60. Symptoms include dark and blurry areas in your vision, change in color perception and blurry vision.

RETINAL DETACHMENTS

This is an emergency where the retina in the back of eye pulls away from its normal position. The longer this goes untreated, the risk of permanent vision loss grows. Our team of qualified ophthalmologists will work quickly and efficiently to re-attach the retina and save your vision.

DRY EYES

Dry eyes stem from your eyes not being able to adequately lubricate themselves naturally. This can lead to irritation, stinging and burning! Our team will recommend you products that can ensure your eyes stay moistened, reducing the potential for them drying out!
